Coronation Green - Portrait Bench
As part of the new Connect 2 footbridge project being undertaken by Sustrans with West Sussex County Council, Adur Economic Development, Adur and Worthing Councils, there will be a great opportunity for residents to get involved in the Portrait Bench Design.
We are looking for your nominations, for people to be immortalised on the bench!
The bench will hold a images of 3 life size figures with a local link. The 2-D figures will be cut from sheet metal and be installed on Coronation Green. The person you nominate can be anyone who you think has a link with, or has contributed to Adur from past or present, maybe a local hero or someone with a historical or famous link to the area.
If you have any suggestions then Pamela Driscoll at the Civic Centre, or call her on 01273 263274 or email pamela.driscoll@adur.gov.uk
The proposal to renew the bridge, to widen it and connect it to the town centre along with Shoreham Station and other local destinations, will create such a direct and convenient network of routes that walking and cycling will become the natural way of covering many journeys in this area. It will connect Shoreham to the sea and further enhance the east-west coastal route which now extends as far as Worthing.
Splash Point - Seating Boulders
As part of the Splash Point scheme which will be completed in September 2010, some of the final stages are now being completed ahead of installation, one of which is the seating element of boulders. Craft:pegg the winning designers, are asking for local and historic linkages with Worthing to be submitted, which will form part of the etching on each boulder, so far some brilliant ideas have been put forward for this artistic take on natural seating elements! From lines in The Importance of Being Earnest, to typewriter keys, to quill and ink bottles, to Tomatoes, Mermaids Purses and Knuckers! (Mythical water Dragons, found in Sussex!)
If you have any historic/cultural suggestions which you would like to put forward for Splash Point, please contact Jasmine Davies of Worthing Regeneration at: worthing.regeneration@worthing.gov.uk
