Harry Cloke, a pupil from Broadwater Manor school, won the school competition to produce a design for a mosaic for Worthing. Harry’s winning entry for his design of Worthing Pier, has now been turned into the real thing by a local artisan. The mosaic is located at the junction of Montague Street and the Montague Centre outside 32 Montague Street.
This is just one of the many projects that Worthing Town Centre Initiative have been busy working on to help brighten up Montague Street area, which is considered rather bland for a major shopping street of the town.
Sharon Clarke, Worthing Town Centre Manager, said: “We hope the project will be a catalyst for further public realm improvements in the future.”
To ensure that the mosaic has a long happy life, West Sussex County Council have constructed a solid foundation for the mosaic which was unveiled on the 31st July 2008.
This is a joint venture between the Worthing Town Centre Initiative and Worthing Borough Council who contributed to the costs, and West Sussex County Council who kindly provided the ground works. Chris Spratt, Chairman of Worthing Town Centre Initiative, said: “This is a great example of a multi-agency partnership project and we look forward to many more of these to take Worthing to the next level.”
