BDP Designs for Splash Point
Summary Design Description
Our design presents Splash Point as a magical space within Worthing, enhancing the image through a series of forms and structures which are visible from afar and embracing when within.
These elegant structures form a window on the sea and create containment for Splash Point. The enlarged space, which is created by changing the levels, is multifunctional in use and inclusive for all creating a platform for spontaneous and organised events.
The concept has originated from the form and movement of waves which radiate out from the town centre. The crests create rooms and spaces of which Splash Point is the peak.
The structure will complement the existing walls and provide an opportunity for light forms to be projected to add interest during the hours of darkness; thus providing a changing dimension and presence to the structure.
Our design is iconic and memorable as it has verticality but also interacts at a human scale. The composition of forms and design layout change the orientation of the space as it will look out to the sea, made possible with new walkways, raised platforms and seating walls.
The design sets out the principles which can be developed along the Esplanade in the future helping the regeneration of the Worthing sea front. We see this project as more than an intricate paving scheme – our design is bold yet elegant and provides impact and value for the scheme and Worthing. It is a flexible space for people and Worthing as a whole.
